In a Nutshell
Genevois was born when I was a Trainee in TOTVS. Back then, I had my first contact with HTML and CSS. In one of the activities proposed to me, I had to create a website in Free Code Camp.
In this moment, I was interested in three things in particular:
-
The history of the city of Geneva, in Switzerland;
-
The French language;
-
Classic Aesthetics inspired by Roger Scruton.
Therefore, the idea of creating a website of a hotel chain based in Geneva (and in other cities all around the world) with elements in French and inspired by classic aesthetics.

The name “Genevois”
The name of the hotel chain is based in the ancient Duchy of Savoie that corresponds to the Duchy of Geneva, named “Genevois”.
Not only that, it’s a form of adjective common to the French language: the suffix “ois” is positioned after the name of a place in order to indicate the origin of someone. The “Quebecois” come from Quebec, as much as the “Genevois” come from Geneva, for example.
Switzerland is the country where Geneva is situated, and the place where César Ritz was born, the father of the modern concept of luxury hotels.

The logo
See a definition of the logo's main aspects:

Historically, Geneva is a Protestant city that represented exile to those who ran from Catholique persecution. The cross is a tribute to the history of the city.

The hammers are not ordinary ones, they’re war hammers used in the past to damage medieval armor. In the corporative context, they represent Genevois’ battle through the Geneva’s competitive hotel industry.
The shield is part of the Western patrimony of medieval symbology. By adopting it, Genevois presents itself as traditional and conservative.
Writing

“Hôtels”, whichever the language, must be written as so, in French. This induces the public to associate the hotels to the Geneva, which is situated in the French-Speaking part of Switzerland.

The EB Garamond is a Serif font. That is to say, it portrays intellectuality.

The five stars are self-explanatory, they emphasize luxury and class.
Benchmarking
The benchmarking was indispensable in order to develop the user journey and the components necessary for delivering more than a beautiful interface, but true good usability. The main sites visited were:

The Golden Ratio
It’s impossible to talk about classic aesthetics, without mentioning the Golden Ratio. Used from architecture and painting to cinema, the human eyes are always delighted to see it.
By using it, I made sure everyone, doesn’t matter where from, would feel the page to be well built and perfectly geometric. Some examples of its use are:

Results
Genevois was cheered by my coworkers as aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, and for providing every user with a joyful experience of navigation. Later, the project was used by me as an academic case study, which was also praised by the Professors.
